Enrique M. Rizo
Film maker
Director / photographer based in Mexico City.
My work is guided by the conviction that storytelling, and cinema, hold a transformative power capable of healing and connecting individuals. With an interest in human warmth, I found the opportunity to direct my first feature documentary amongst the preparations for a Philip Glass concert in Bellas Artes, Mexico. My debut feature, A Place Called Music (2023), premiered at the Shanghai International Film Festival, and explores the encounter between Daniel Medina, a venerated Wixárika musician, and legendary composer Philip Glass, weaving a dialogue between the modern and the sacred.
For the last year, I have been working mostly on short form, directing a documentary series featuring Mexican traditional artists (my first film in the series premiered on Nowness) and will soon be premiering another film called Rituales, a short about migration, dance, and goodbyes. I am also writing my first fiction film.
Thanks for stopping by. Always happy to connect and to collaborate in Mexico or abroad, so get in touch!
